matchTag 1.0System RequirementsMac OS X 10.7.2 with iTunes 10.5.2 Expiration Date: 29 Feb 2012 |
Tracks, which in the past were directly downloaded from the iTunes Store, were properly tagged with track information. My app is directed to those users having tracks in their music library, which originate from other sources and have been captured via iTunes Match.
When matching tracks with iTunes Match, iTunes identifies each and every track and assigns a unique ID to the particular track, which is identical to the iTunes Store Track ID. This ID can be sent to Apple’s iTunes Store API and in turn receives all the necessary track information as response.
Matching of track information only works with tracks, which have been re-downloaded via iTunes Match.
When re-downloading the track, iTunes does not exchange the existing track information of the user, which is correct as such. However, for numerous tracks, information pieces such a disc number, release year etc. are missing. This information can now be easily downloaded, respectively corrected with "matchTag".
• There are tracks having received an iTunes Store ID, which still cannot be found via API
• There are tracks having received an iTunes Store ID, which is „incorrect“ and references this particular track e.g. to a compilation or single. When downloading this track information, an existing album will be disrupted in iTunes
I personally think, that this is the reason why Apple itself does not yet provide this service. However, during numerous tests, this happened only a handful of times.
